the second leg of our trip included a trip to titignano, an estate in the mountains of umbria. and by trip i mean a trek up a winding,teensy road in a massive bus, fearing my life at every twist and turn..lets get serious it's the first time i've prayed in a while. awaiting us was a traditional umbrian feast. one of the five landlocked italian regions,umbria is known for cuisine based more on local game rather than seafood. so let the 10-course, mind-numbing feast begin...
antipasti
literally "before meal," appetizers including sausage crostini and pizzeta in the courtyard and courses of cured meats and a savory cheese tart
{salami, prociutto, & mortadella...millefoglie & formaggio torta}
primo piatto
the first course, which is lighter than the second and usually made up of pasta and grains, included asparagus risotto and pappardelle with boar ragu
{risotto agli asparagi...pappardelle al ragu di cinghiale}
secondo piatto
heavier ingredients such as fish or meat are included in the second course...our meal included venison and roasted chicken
contorno
salad is usually served in this course, the "side dish," to aid digestion
dolce, cafe, & apertivo
self explanatory & deelicious
{tiramisu...espresso}
i can die happy.
