why not live for fun and joy and love?"

prior to arriving in naples for my history of baroque art class trip, i was unsure of what to expect. on one hand, i was basing my opinion off of that of my professor, who warned us of the immense amount of crime, piles of trash, and difficult navigation for the better part of a class period. on the other hand was my wishful thinking that it would be an enjoyable trip.
it turned out to be such an pleasant trip, i'm not sure any of us wanted to leave. the juxtaposition of piles of trash next to gilded baroque cathedrals & modern graffiti feet away from revered caravaggio works kept us constantly intrigued. not to mention that the all-girls trip (with the exception of max, the lone soldier in the bunch) was a relaxing change in comparison to sevilla's dude fest last weekend.
and did i mention that naples is home to some of the best food in italy? neapolitans fry anything and everything, and our lunch spot on saturday is in the guinness book of world records for having the best pizza in the world (sorbillo, look it up!). i went all john mayer on myself that day and left the camera in my suitcase in order to really see everything on my own..also, the gypsy warnings had me a little paranoid. so while no pictures exist, believe me when i say it was a the size of a small child and was covered in the best ricotta i've had in my entire life. the whole class is still reminiscing about it...
{1. typical neapolitan yellow, red, & green architecture}
{2. not exactly the work of masters, but pretty in its own right}
{3. the carthusian monastery, the most competitive location for artists to get commissions in napoli}
