in need of a replacement for all of the concrete i'm surrounded by, i went home last weekend for a little escape from the city. suburbia is exactly how it has always been, with a stunning lack of anything to do, but necessary every once in a while.
my amazing mom has been helping her 97 year old friend move from her apartment into a nursing home, and my sister and i got the invite to tag along and pick what we wanted from dot's jewelry collection.
engraved brooches, old military memorabilia, and pearls streamed out of the boxes and bags, but the most fascinating find was this locket. it was originally owned by dot's aunt (one of the women pictured, although i'm not sure which), with a matching one belonging to her best friend. i have a weakness for jewelry as is, but anything with history tied to is a must-have in my book.
while amy claimed the locket, i got the one thing i've always wanted: a polaroid camera. a day late and a dollar short i'm afraid, but better than nothing. luckily there are companies that make compatible film, and getting ahold of it has been my recent challenge...thrilling, i know. fingers crossed.
